Webhosting - How to find the appropriate provider

 

You need a new website, a make over of your existing sites, email addresses or storage in the net? Everywhere it's the same problem - how to find the best partner for the space in the Internet - the appropriate web hoster.
Comparing the large providers there is usually no big difference in the standard services of the offered packages, with similar prices.

 

Sometimes the little things and the price-performance ratio can make the difference. During the last 15 years we have tried a few hosters and had to overcome some problems. First you have to be aware of what exactly you want to do. The main questions are if you are planning a website for a company or a club page, a blog or an online shop?

 

 

 

Requirements for the project

 

The most modern websites are dynamic and based on PHP program code and a MySQL database. So are the popular packages like Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, Prestashop etc.
The basic prerequisites for these pages are offered by almost every hosting company. But some differences in the offered technical services, such as the free possibility to encrypt the data traffic of the website via SSL, or the possibility of various worldwide server sites, will be the contributing factor.

 

Differences in Uruguay

 

Even with fiber-optic connections at your site, the connections from Uruguay to, for example, Germany are still very slow, but the bandwidth within the American continent is partly excellent. When searching for a faster server, CSTC-Uruguay has also moved from Germany to the USA. In Uruguay, either the servers are too slow or much more expensive. After some researches our choice was the webhosting company SiteGround in the United States.

The advantages with this hoster are manifold, like:

- free SSL encryption via Let's Encrypt
- Joomla and Wordpress optimized offers
- various server locations, eg in the USA, Holland, the UK
- various cache options (fast cache for even faster page layout)
And much more is already available in the standard package for 3.95 $ / month (10/2016).

The optimization for Joomla / Wordpress and the server location in the USA were decisive for us. Through all improvements and despite the SSL encryption, the performance of the CSTC page has more than doubled when called from Uruguay compared to the server in Germany. There are certainly cheaper providers, also in Germany, but not with all the possibilities of SiteGround.

For us, SiteGround offers a very good price-performance ratio and even German customers do not necessarily have their data on servers in the USA.

Uruguay domains

 

For all those who want to operate a page in Uruguay with a UY domain, it should be mentioned again that the UY domains are cheaper here, but we have not found a web host in the last 4 years, which also has a suitable and cheap overall package. You will notice the problems when calling different sides here Uruguay, also at the speed of the construction. In a time of social media probably the domain ending is no longer quite as important. At the moment we could not find any disadvantages. Our customers, however, are enthusiastic about the speed of the side-building against the uruguayan competition.

 

 

Webhosting and customers in other countries

 

If you prefer an other provider, this is also not a problem. Due to our years of experience with customers in Germany, configuration and support for hosters such as 1und1, Alfahosting, Hetzner, Hosteurope, Bluehost, etc. do not cause any problems. For customers domiciled outside the webhosters country, a contact person residing in the selected country should be available.
